Aluminum cover frames for ABB Chiara electrical switch range.
ABB is introducing a new valuable material in the Italian switch assortment Chiara: anodized aluminum. Natural are the material, the manufacturing process and the colors that allow a full recyclability.
The new palette is more subdued and refined, and the result provides an ultra-thin texture and clean lines inspired by the world of furnishing and technology.
The sustainability of the entire product lifecycle guided us in the choice of material and production process.
The frame is made using a single aluminum sheet, folded and cut in a single step, minimizing the waste. The subsequent anodising is an electrochemical process that creates a protective oxide layer on the treated metal surface, which improves corrosion resistance, surface hardness and resistance to wear and abrasion and gives a valuable and long lasting aesthetic appearance.
The dyes are of natural origin and does not provide metal deposit on the material surface: they penetrate the pores of the aluminum oxide generated during the anodising and form durable chemical bonds.
