Entries to the Australian Good Design Awards are now online with an incredible line up of contenders vying for the nation’s highest design honour.

The 2017 Good Design Awards has attracted the broadest and most diverse range of submissions in the program’s history with entries across seven main design disciplines and spanning 25 individual categories.

“The Australian Good Design Awards is proudly one of the most diverse design award programs in the world and one of the few platforms to showcase design in such a broad manner,” said Dr. Brandon Gien, CEO of Good Design Australia.

With a proud history dating back to 1958, the Good Design Awards is Australia’s most prestigious Award for design and innovation. The Awards celebrate the best new products and services entering the marketplace, excellence in architectural design, digital and communication design and rewards emerging areas of design including design strategy and social innovation.

“Entries in this year’s Good Design Awards include the latest in cutting edge design with everything from trains, cars, boats, kettles, toasters, cameras, VR headsets, washing machines, fridges, vacuum cleaners to medical devices, 3D printed jewelry and even a semi-trailer – and that’s just one of the seven design disciplines,” commented Dr. Gien.

“What makes these Awards so unique is the diversity of design projects that are submitted. No other design award program in the world provides a framework where projects are evaluated across product design, service design, architectural design, digital design, communication design, design strategy and social innovation. The Judges are certainly going to have their work cut out for them,” said Dr. Gien.

Entries will be evaluated by an expert panel of Australian and international Judges in April at Fox Studios in Sydney. Judges will spend a week pouring over the entries in their allocated categories and evaluate each entry according to the specific evaluation criteria.

Entries that meet the evaluation criteria will be recognised with a Good Design Selection and those that exceed the criteria, will be awarded the Good Design Award.

The Jury will also be asked to select the Good Design Award Best in Category winners, Good Design Award Best Overall, Good Design Award for Sustainability and the coveted Good Design Award of the Year – the highest design honour in the country, given to only one project in the Awards each year.

Winners will be presented with their Awards at the 2017 Good Design Awards Ceremony on June 8 in Sydney.

The Good Design Awards Ceremony and Good Design Festival will once again be presented as part of the Vivid Ideas program during Vivid Sydney, the world’s largest festival of light, music and ideas. Winners of this year’s Awards will be invited to be part of the Good Design Showcase during Vivid Sydney, offering participants a unique opportunity to showcase their designs to festival audiences.

“On top of what is already shaping up to be another exciting year for design in 2017, we are also gearing up to celebrate our 60th Anniversary in 2018. This significant milestone will mark six decades of promoting good design – making it one of the longest running design promotion programs in the world today,” Dr. Gien concluded.

Tickets to the 2017 Good Design Awards Ceremony and After Party will go on sale shortly.
